Caring for your teeth - it's never too late to start!

Use us for support, help and advice on caring for your teeth and keeping them clean.

Whether you want to find out more about brushing or flossing, or how smoking or your diet affects your teeth - just ask!

Tooth brushing tips

Make sure you're using a toothbrush with medium-soft bristles to avoid damaging the enamel on your teeth. Your toothbrush should also have a small head so you can also clean hard-to-reach areas.

Here's how to brush effectively:

  • use only a little toothpaste and brush along your gum line at a 45 degree angle
  • brush in a circular motion, two or three teeth at a time
  • finish by brushing your tongue and roof of your mouth to freshen your breath
  • consider an electric toothbrush - clinical trials show them more effective than manual brushing

Flossing tips

Because most cavities and gum disease start in places your toothbrush can't reach, do make sure you floss at least once a day. Here's how to floss effectively:

  • wind about 18 inches around the middle fingers of each hand
  • pinch the floss between your thumbs and index fingers
  • guide floss between your teeth, using a side-to-side motion
  • pull it tightly into a 'C' shape around the side of your tooth and slide it up and down
  • repeat for each tooth

If your teeth are too tight, or the floss catches, let us know.
